OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model has gained immense popularity in the tech world. This powerful AI tool can comprehend both text and images, making it even more versatile.

GPT-4 has also excelled in challenging tests such as the US Bar Exam and SAT and is compatible with 26 different languages.

However, not everyone can access GPT-4 for free at present – only ChatGPT Plus users have access to it, while API access for developers remains on a waitlist (and it’s unlikely to open to everyone anytime soon!).

Fortunately, I have great news for those seeking to get GPT-4 access without subscribing to overpriced AI tools!

In this blog post, I’ll share methods I’ve discovered that allow you to use GPT-4 for free or, at the very least, more affordably than most popular paid tools on the market.

What Is GPT-4?

GPT-4 is the latest version of OpenAI’s language model systems. It is a large multimodal model that can accept both image and text inputs and generate human-like text outputs.

GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, which is a type of language model that uses deep learning to generate conversational text.

GPT-4 is available for developers via a waitlist, and developers are required to provide specific information regarding how they plan to use GPT-4.

Despite its capabilities, GPT-4 has similar limitations as earlier GPT models. It still is not fully reliable and can make reasoning errors and “hallucinate” facts. Therefore, great care should be taken when using language model outputs, particularly in high-stakes contexts

How Is It Better Than ChatGPT Or GPT-3 Davinci?

GPT-4’s most significant upgrade over ChatGPT and GPT-3 DaVinci is its impressive token capacity, which has increased from 4,096 tokens (about 8,000 words) to 32,768 tokens (over 64,000 words).

This substantial increase allows for richer and more in-depth conversations, opening up endless possibilities for AI-human interactions.

Additionally, GPT-4 can create mini-games like snake and pong using JavaScript and HTML5 in a single prompt. This unique capability highlights the immense potential of GPT-4 in various fields, including gaming, education, and entertainment.

Another remarkable feature of GPT-4 is its ability to pass exams designed for humans, scoring in the 90th percentile of test-takers on the Uniform Bar Exam and the 99th percentile on the Biology Olympiad test.

In contrast, ChatGPT only managed to achieve the 31st percentile. This demonstrates GPT-4’s exceptional performance in understanding complex questions and providing accurate answers.

Moreover, OpenAI has made significant strides in minimizing the mistakes made by GPT-4, particularly in reducing what they call ‘hallucinations.’

This improved accuracy ensures a more reliable and coherent AI-human interaction, making GPT-4 an invaluable tool for various applications across different industries.

As a result, GPT-4 surpasses its predecessors in terms of capacity, creativity, and accuracy, setting a new benchmark for AI language models.

How Much Does GPT-4 API Cost?

For those looking to join the waitlist for the GPT-4 API, the pricing is based on purchasing tokens.

Here’s the cost structure for different token packages:

  • $0.03 for 1,000 prompt tokens and $0.06 for 1,000 sampled tokens with 8k content lengths.
  • $0.06 for 1,000 prompt tokens and $0.12 for 1,000 sampled tokens with 32k context lengths.

By purchasing tokens, you can access GPT-4 through the API, allowing for more customized integration and use cases.

9 Methods To Get Access To GPT-4

Method 1: Using Poe.com

POE.com GPT-4

Poe.com is a platform where users can interact with various AI-powered chatbots and receive instant responses to their queries.

Here’s how you can use GPT-4 for free on Poe.com:

  1. Visit Poe.com using your preferred browser.
  2. Click on “Continue with Google” to sign in with your Google account.
  3. Browse through the list of available AI chatbots on the platform.
  4. Select “GPT-4” from the list (note that it comes with limited access).

Please be aware that using GPT-4 on Poe.com allows only one chat prompt per day. This method is best suited for quick, on-the-fly requests.

To use unlimited GPT-4 you have to subscribe to their plans which are not available to all regions. It cost 20$ a month, similar to ChatGPT but the UI is a lot better plus the GPT-4 runs are not rate-limited.

Also, note that the subscriptions are only available in mobile apps.

Method 2: Using Bing Chat AI

bing chat GPT-4

Bing Chat AI is another alternative that offers unlimited access to GPT-4 for free. To use Bing Chat AI, follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Edge web browser app.
  2. Sign in to your Microsoft account, or create a new one if you don’t already have one.
  3. Open Microsoft Edge and visit Bing.com.
  4. Click on “Try the new Bing today” or click on the chat icon on the top right corner of the page.

Bing Chat AI now provides access to GPT-4 without any waitlist. However, it may lack some features available in the full version of GPT-4.

What I also notice is that the output is not as same as the GPT-4 on the ChatGPT subscription. Personally, it seems Tampered or Controlled in a way.
Also, it forces you to use Edge, so it might be an issue if you are not a fan.

Method 3: Bing On Skype

Skype GPT-4

Just like on Edge, Bing-powered by GPT-4 is also available on Skype. Just download the app and install it and you should see a new thread that says Bing in Skype. In my experience, Bing in Skype is offering better responses than on the edge browser using Bing Chat.

Method 4: Nat.Dev

nat.dev-dashboard

Nat.Dev used to offer free access to GPT-4, making it one of the most popular GPT-4 playgrounds. Unfortunately, free access is no longer available.

However, you can still get access to GPT-4 at a fraction of the cost compared to an OpenAI subscription.

By spending a minimum of $5 on credits, you can explore GPT-4’s features on Nat.Dev.

Pros of Nat.Dev:

  • Cost-effective compared to OpenAI subscriptions.
  • Offers a wide range of GPT-4 features.
  • An easy-to-use platform for experimenting with GPT-4.

Cons of Nat.Dev:

  • No longer offers completely free access

Method 5: Halist.ai (Unlimited GPT-4)

Halist.ai is another Chat type app that is powered by GPT 3.5 and GPT-4. You can try it for FREE, but to unlock GPT-4 you need to subscribe to their monthly plan of just 9$ per month.

This subscription offers UNLIMITED GPT-4 generation.

The app is pretty much bare bones and doesn’t have many features. However, I like how it adds proper text formatting and links to external sources in the get-go which saves me a lot of time.

Though this method is not FREE, it is still very cheap and you can get a better output for some reason compared to the GPT-4 on ChatGPT.

I think they made some tweaks on the settings and backend of the GPT-4 API.

Method 6: Huggingface

Huggingface, a popular platform for natural language processing models, now provides access to a free ChatGPT-4 chatbot developed by Yuvraj Sharma.

This innovative ChatGPT-4 model doesn’t require an API key to function, making it easily accessible to users. However, considering it operates on a queue system, users might sometimes have to wait for a few extra seconds or more to receive their chatbot responses.

  • To access GPT-4 via Huggingface, simply visit this link: https://huggingface.co/spaces/ysharma/ChatGPT4.
  • Once there, you can enter your queries in the provided text box and click the “Run” option to initiate the conversation.

The powerful GPT-4 language model will then generate accurate and contextually appropriate responses for your queries, absolutely free of charge.

Note that due to the app being free and a lot of users using it hence there are times that it doesn’t work.

Method 7: Use Ora.sh

Use Ora.sh – If you’re looking for an accessible and easy way to engage with the impressive features of GPT-4, Ora.sh is the perfect solution.

This user-friendly web platform enables you to generate Language Learning Model (LLM) apps effortlessly through a chat interface. As a testament to their commitment to innovation,

  • To get started, simply visit https://ora.sh/openai/gpt4 and create an account using your email.
  • Upon logging in, you’ll be able to harness the full power of the GPT-4 model without any restrictions or fees.

This incredible opportunity allows you to truly delve into the capabilities of GPT-4 and see firsthand how it can revolutionize the way we communicate and process natural language.

Method 8: OpenAI API Key

The most efficient way to use GPT-4 is to directly use it on the OpenAI playground. This way, you will only pay exactly what you have consumed only.
So if you generated 10k words, you would still only pay pennies.

However, the problem is that it is only on a waitlist. You still have to wait to get accepted before you get access.

If you can’t wait to get accepted, you can try buying an OpenAI account that is GPT-4 approved.

You can find sellers in huge marketing forums like blackhatworld.com, Reddit, or on this dedicated marketplace from the website called z2u.com

Beware though, I haven’t tested buying on that site so do your due diligence!

Method 9: GhostTogether.com

GhostTogether.com is another platform that provides a free alternative to GPT-4, albeit with limited access. The website currently has two AI models available for use and plans to include GPT-4 soon. (It is coming very soon, probably in weeks so I thought of adding this on the list)

To use GhostTogether.com, follow these steps:

  1. Visit GhostTogether.com.
  2. Register for an account or sign in using your existing Gmail login.
  3. Type your GPT prompt into the message box.
  4. Select the “Ask GPT” button, then click the “Send” button.

  6. Click on the bell to view the AI-generated response to your prompt.

Pros of GhostTogether.com:

  • Completely free to use.
  • Intuitive user interface and dark mode available.
  • GPT-4 is expected to be added soon.

Cons of GhostTogether.com:

  • Limited access to AI models.
  • GPT-4 is not yet available on the platform.

Why Not Just Use GPT-4 on ChatGPT Plus Subscription?

Currently, GPT-4 is available on ChatGPT Pro subscription which cost 20$ a month. Seems a good deal, right? However, right now there are so many users that are using the FREE version of ChatGPT that OpenAI’s servers are getting loaded too much.

Because of this issue, a lot of users are reporting downtimes and this is quite common knowledge for anyone who uses ChatGPT.

Lastly, even though you are on a Plus subscription, you will only get to do a limited call of GPT-4 in a 3-hour interval.

How To Know If Your AI Tool is Using GPT-4 and not GPT-3.5?

Sometimes, there are some tools that are claiming that they are using GPT-4 but when tested it turns out they are just using GPT-3.5.

The way I test it is that I ask it this question:

“If there are 10 books in a room and I read 2, how many books are still in the room?”

GPT-4 is way better in reasoning so it would answer something like this:

If there are 10 books in a room and you read 2 of them, there are still 10 books in the room. Reading books doesn’t remove them from the room.

Whereas GPT-3.5 would respond like this:

“If there were originally 10 books in the room and you read 2 of them, then there are still 8 books remaining in the room.”

See the difference there? GPT-4 is superior in reasoning and in fact can answer very complex questions, as if it is a highly intelligent individual.

Will GPT-4 be FREE?

GPT-4 is currently accessible through the ChatGPT Plus paid subscription, and considering OpenAI’s business model, it is improbable that it will be offered entirely for free.

However, several third-party applications with access to the GPT-4 API provide limited usage at no cost.

These platforms allow users to experience GPT-4’s capabilities while adhering to certain restrictions, making it more accessible to a broader audience.
